Summary

The Man Who Didn't Call by Rosie Walsh is a heart-wrenching love story with a dark secret at its heart, for anyone who's waited for a phone call that didn't come。

Imagine you meet a man, spend six glorious days together, and fall in love。 And it’s mutual: you’ve never been so certain of anything。

So when he leaves for a long-booked holiday and promises to call from the airport, you have no cause to doubt him。
But he doesn’t call。

Your friends tell you to forget him, but you know they're wrong: something must have happened; there must be a reason for his silence。

What do you do when you finally discover you're right? That there is a reason -- and that reason is the one thing you didn't share with each other?

The truth。

Wonderful read。。。。。From the moment I started to read this book I fell in love with the characters。 It is full of surprises and intrigue around every corner and the turn of every page leaves you wanting more, it really is difficult to put down。 I’ve already recommended it to friends。

This is a good read。 I found it got a bit slow towards the middle but then rekindled my interest with an unexpected twist。

I'm a sucker for romance, even bad romance。 I think this was a book that was available at the library in the minutes before I had to leave for a flight。 It took me a few minutes to recall the plot to write this review, it's nothing memorable。 Clear communication would've solved all of their problems, but I guess there wouldn't have been a story then。 I did like the love story before she got ghosted though, it's just the ending that was meh。 I'm a sucker for romance, even bad romance。 I think this was a book that was available at the library in the minutes before I had to leave for a flight。 It took me a few minutes to recall the plot to write this review, it's nothing memorable。 Clear communication would've solved all of their problems, but I guess there wouldn't have been a story then。 I did like the love story before she got ghosted though, it's just the ending that was meh。 。。。more

I'm struggling on how to rate this- so I'm going to say 4。5。 I cried three times while reading this book, which does not happen often。 The story was twisty and I enjoyed where it went。 My complaint is minimal in that certain parts felt a little cliche for me and I feel as though the ending dragged a bit。 https://www。goodreads。com/review/edit。。。# I'm struggling on how to rate this- so I'm going to say 4。5。 I cried three times while reading this book, which does not happen often。 The story was twisty and I enjoyed where it went。 My complaint is minimal in that certain parts felt a little cliche for me and I feel as though the ending dragged a bit。 https://www。goodreads。com/review/edit。。。# 。。。more

Slow to start, but good if you stick it through

This book starts out pretty slow you really have to stick with it for about 1/4 of the way until it gets gripping。 There were a few spins which I turned out to really enjoy and then the ending wasn’t as satisfying but I’m not sure what I was hoping for。

This was a wonderful 5-star book until 2/3 of the way through when several plot twists turned the story on its head。 It was an emotional journey, well-written and suspenseful throughout。 Just when I thought I knew how the story would end, it took a different turn。 There were many layers and I wondered repeatedly where the heck the author was going with it。 By the end, I really wanted to give it 3 stars based on the spoiler below, but the writing was engaging and the plot twists honestly surprise This was a wonderful 5-star book until 2/3 of the way through when several plot twists turned the story on its head。 It was an emotional journey, well-written and suspenseful throughout。 Just when I thought I knew how the story would end, it took a different turn。 There were many layers and I wondered repeatedly where the heck the author was going with it。 By the end, I really wanted to give it 3 stars based on the spoiler below, but the writing was engaging and the plot twists honestly surprised me, so I averaged it out to 4 stars。 I listened to the audiobook and the narrator, Katherine Press, was very good。 (view spoiler)[ I was very disappointed about the unplanned pregnancy。 Sarah was married for 17 years and didn't get pregnant, but then she has a one week fling with a guy she just met and they were careful and she still gets pregnant? Ugh! I thought this was a cheap, lazy plot twist to get Sarah and Eddy back together。 Even if Eddie hadn't ghosted her and they kept seeing each other and everything worked out perfectly, she still got pregnant the first week they met which was very irresponsible, even if they were in love。 It would have put a huge strain on their relationship right away。 It would have been much more powerful if Eddy and Sarah got back together because they just couldn't stay apart, because they loved each other too much, and decided that, even though it would be difficult, they would work through the challenges with Eddy's mother together。 After a wonderfully intricate plot with unique twists and turns, the unplanned pregnancy was a simplistic way to make everything work out perfectly in the end。 Though I will admit the ending was beautiful and sentimental。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

An amazing story with a brilliant plot twist near the end

Loved this book。 I read it in one day which is always a great sign of a good book。 Sarah and Eddie meet and fall head over heels in love。 They spend a week together and then Eddie disappears。 The story just keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next。 I have to say the Author does a great job explaining every event that happens and keeps the reader fully informed。

Great characters。 In the middle It got slow and I questioned my choice, but I’m glad I stuck with it。

Gripping story I always enjoy a book I get completely lost in and don’t realise I’m reading。 This book did not disappoint。Wonderfully written with a non laboured pace, which I always find appealing in a book。 Very much enjoyed this read。

Susie

Ending was disney ish。 And not realistic。

Magda Hoffman

Slow burner and little action。 I could predict the end of it。 Not enough excitement for me。 Ok to read but I was bored throughout, perhaps as I am not that keen on the subject of what these two have in common。

3。5 starsThis is the first book I’ve read in 2021 - and we’re already at the end of March。 Covid has stolen my concentration for reading, last year I read only half as many books as usual。 I’m hoping this has gotten me out of my reading funk。 I really enjoyed this, and read it straight through in one sitting。 It’s thriller with romance too - unusual, certainly, and clever too。 It’s brilliantly structured, and I was definitely rooting for Sarah, our main character。 An intriguing, yet easy, read, 3。5 starsThis is the first book I’ve read in 2021 - and we’re already at the end of March。 Covid has stolen my concentration for reading, last year I read only half as many books as usual。 I’m hoping this has gotten me out of my reading funk。 I really enjoyed this, and read it straight through in one sitting。 It’s thriller with romance too - unusual, certainly, and clever too。 It’s brilliantly structured, and I was definitely rooting for Sarah, our main character。 An intriguing, yet easy, read, that I’m happy to recommend。My rating strategy:5 stars = An all time favourite, I could tell you about this 10 years later。4 stars = Loved this, really gripping/fun/exciting, will remember long term。 3 stars = Definitely enjoyed, might forget quickly though, but happy to read more by the author。2 stars = Likely to have some goood points, but it didn't properly captivate me。1 star = Not my cup of tea at all, wouldn't return to the author。 。。。more

I kept reading。。。。it did have an interesting plot twist, but overall I found the protagonist a weak, annoying woman。 Also, certain sections of the book could have been half the length that they were。 I did quite a bit of skimming。

3。5 stars。 It started off feeling slow and dragged out, but the story had me hooked。 It picked up and got really good about half way through。 While there were some surprises, much was very predictable。 Still a great story though。

Interesting idea for a book theme。 The storyline is much more involved than the title suggests。 Expect a few twists。

Wow。 That was a tale。 At times you're cringing reading it, laughing, crying (in my case at the end), and/or you're slightly bewildered at times。 I did think I had it ALL figured out early on。 My big fat egocentric reading brain just knew exactly what was going on, but I was incorrect。 I like books that surprise me so I give the storyteller major props。 Rated only 4 stars because I felt that Part III was rushed or rush-y。 I just felt kinda pummeled by the time elapses。 Wow。 That was a tale。 At times you're cringing reading it, laughing, crying (in my case at the end), and/or you're slightly bewildered at times。 I did think I had it ALL figured out early on。 My big fat egocentric reading brain just knew exactly what was going on, but I was incorrect。 I like books that surprise me so I give the storyteller major props。 Rated only 4 stars because I felt that Part III was rushed or rush-y。 I just felt kinda pummeled by the time elapses。 。。。more

Struggled to get into this book for the first half but definitely worth pursuing。 It's the perfect balance of heartbreak and warm love that life brings。 Struggled to get into this book for the first half but definitely worth pursuing。 It's the perfect balance of heartbreak and warm love that life brings。 。。。more

Aaah this was so good! I've been escaping from pandemic life into not so good romance novels and have read too many 2 and 3 star books, so this was a real treat! This book was brilliant! At first I thought it was solely a romance, then as I read on I discovered it was more like a mystery。 There were several different elements in this book that were so amazing。 The plot was exceptional and well written, I can normally predict storylines but that twist was totally unexpected! De hoofdpersonen laten hun leven bepalen door een gebeurtenis 20 jaar (!) eerder。 Life goes on people! Tuurlijk, het valt soms niet mee, maar dit is wel erg overdreven。

The title can kind of throw you。 Yes she was technically "ghosted" but not for a stupid reason。There was so much potential in this book。 I just feel like it was lost。 I wasn't even very interested in it until about the half way mark or even further。 It was a boring paced read for me。 I about gave up on it。 The title can kind of throw you。 Yes she was technically "ghosted" but not for a stupid reason。There was so much potential in this book。 I just feel like it was lost。 I wasn't even very interested in it until about the half way mark or even further。 It was a boring paced read for me。 I about gave up on it。 。。。more

The blurb of this book sounded like it would be right up my alley and I was excited to read it, but the reality of it just left me feeling like it was okay。 The book was fine, but the story didn’t make me want to keep reading and didn’t draw me in。 The characters were fine but I didn’t love them。 There were parts that impacted me emotionally but overall, I just liked this book okay。

Elaine Silvester

Nicely written 。 Was a book that I kept attempting to guess the plot ahead。
